Depicting an Icon: Stamp Portraiture and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Thursday, October 12, 2023, 1600 - 2000
Join the Postal Museum for a celebration of the release of a stamp featuring Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. We will be joined by Phillip Bermingham, the artist who took the photograph of Justice Ginsburg which inspired the stamp, Ethel Kessler, the USPS Art Director of the stamp, and Daniel Piazza, Chief Curator of Philately at the National Postal Museum. These experts will share insight into the process of creating this particular stamp, stamp art in general, and stamp portraiture more widely.
This event will be held in person at the National Postal Museum. Starting at 4pm, there will be activities and a special portraiture-themed self-guide for participants to use to explore the galleries, which will stay open late for the event. The talk will begin at 6pm, followed by a reception from 7pm-8pm. Registration encouraged.
