STARS Performing Arts Inc. is a grassroots non-profit 501c3 organization that serves the communities in the DMV area. This year, on March 18th, we want to add to our annual events the Inaugural Honors Awards where we celebrate some of our clients and individuals that are doing their best to make a difference in the community and themselves despite some of the challenges that they deal with daily such as autism, visually impaired, single-parent households, foster care, the violence, and stress today that causes mental health issues and so much more.

Honorees will arrive in a Mercedes Sprinter, take pictures on our blue carpet, and be interviewed. Our awards will also have live performances by some of the present/past clients that we've worked with in some capacity. Our goal is to give them the experience of a celebrity awards event, like the red-carpet events they watch on TV. Regardless, if they never make it to such an event, they will have experienced it with us. We have invited public figures to join us. The cost of the event is $20. You may also sponsor a child by donating.

In addition, we will honor Ben's Chili Bowl owner, Virginia Ali. Mrs. Ali will receive our Trailblazer award as we want to show by example that it's vital to always give flowers to those who have helped pave the way for them today.
Along with Mr. Timothy McClain Sr., a resident of Dumfries, Virginia who has been recognized for all his hard work and contribution to the community by the Mayor of Dumfries, Derrick Wood. An after-party will follow to celebrate their achievements and some birthdays of clients.

Having this event is exciting for so many reasons. We want to acknowledge the youth and show them that we not only see them, but also appreciate them and want them to continue to Shine Through Adversity Reaching Success (STARS). Hosting this event in the town of Dumfries, which is a historic location with many hidden gems.

Our Founder and President, Tamika Joy Harris-Russell, a professional singer/songwriter, is a former resident of Dumfries, Va. Her father was born in Dumfries, Va. He passed away on March 8th, 2022. Her mother's birthday is March 18th, she passed seven years ago. We celebrate them both. Her dad built many homes and businesses in Prince William County. Harris Construction, a family black-owned business, was started by her grandfather Emmet in the 1950s.

We are looking for all officials, residents, and business owners to help support this event and become partners for the future. Let's make a difference with our youth! Please, contact Alisa Thornton for any other information at (202)705-7057.
