Tanana Valley Railroad Youth Rail Camp in Fairbanks on Wednesday, August 3, 2022
Wednesday, August 3, 2022 -- Saturday, August 6, 2022, 0900 - 1500
The Friends of the Tanana Valley Railroad are pleased to announce we will be providing a summer rail camp to eight youths aged 14 to 17 August 3rd to 6th at the Tanana Valley Railroad Museum and Shop located in Pioneer Park. Class fee is $50 for each participant.
Campers will learn basic railroading safety, track maintenance, steam engines, and the history of the restoration of Engine No. 1, along with a tour and vocational education at the Alaska Railroad. Lunches and safety gear will be provided.
On the last day campers will be joining our operations crew to get hands on training at all the jobs on run days including running the locomotive and speeder.
This is an exciting opportunity for any teenager who is interested in a future career in railroading or steam operations.
Upon graduation, campers will receive a certificate showing they completed the course.
Participants will need to be able to work around heavy equipment and rail. They will also be handling coal and exposed to various lubricants and fuel used by our equipment.
Due to the limited number of this class, slots will fill up fast. Any extras will be put on a waitlist and considered for future camps.
