Thursday, June 14, 2018, 1800 - 2000
uthors Carolyn Asome and Chloe Fox have scoured the Vogue archives to bring the finest examples of classic handbags and the ubiquitous Little Black Dress. In this talk they will discuss the key wardrobe essentials and how they fit in to the fashion landscape. The authors will be in conversation, highlighting topics such as:

How a chance encounter on a plane lead to the iconic Birkin bag.
How the Little Black dress has evolved in the 90 years since its creation.
How emerging markets are changing the way handbags are designed.
The first two titles in a new series from Octopus, £15.00, Vogue Essentials: Handbags and Vogue Essentials: Little Black Dress explore the archives the fashion bible, hand-picking the very best examples which have graced its illustrious pages.

In Vogue Essentials: Handbags, Carolyn Asome reveals the fashion accessory that can make any woman feel fabulous – from the myriad surrealist creations of Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel to Prada’s democratic nylon backpack, from the exclusive Hermés Birkin bag to individual vintage gems, the handbag is fashion’s most inventive accessory.

Ninety years after Vogue dubbed Coco Chanel’s simple short black ‘Ford’ dress ‘the frock that all the world will wear’, Chloe Fox celebrates the best LBDs in Vogue Essentials: Little Black Dress. From the bold, dramatic designs of Zandra Rhodes to the eye-catching LBDs by Vivienne Westwood, from the pared-down simplicity of Calvin Klein’s shift dresses to an asymmetric shoulder evening gown by Versace, Vogue Essentials: Little Black Dress celebrates the very best of the LBD.

Carolyn Asome is a fashion and interiors writer and brand consultant. She was a fashion editor at The Times for 14 years and now contributes to the The Times, The Sunday Times Style magazine, the Telegraph and Vogue.

Chloe Fox is a contributing editor to Vogue, where she spent three years working on the Features desk. Over the years, she has interviewed a number of its cover stars, including Sienna Miller, Keira Knightley and Helena Bonham Carter. She is the author of Vogue On: Alexander McQueen and Vogue On: Manolo Blahnik.

The talk follows at 6.15pm for 6.20pm in the Fashion Studio and lasts for approximately one hour including an opportunity to ask questions, followed by a book signing in the foyer.
