22nd Annual Rails in the Garden

On March 7th and 8th the Tucson Garden Railway Society will host an amazing adventure for the young – and the young at heart. The annual Rails in the Garden free self-guided tour is a celebration of nature, railroading and the "little people and animals" who "live" there. Members of the Society open their garden railroad train layouts to the general public allowing others to share the wonderful results of their passion. There are multiple sites to visit all over the Tucson Area – from Oracle to Green Valley, over to the Tucson Mountains, and east towards the Rincons – the weekend will be filled with G-scale train scenes in a miniature world. The designated layouts are open Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm (except the Gadsden-Pacific Division Toy Train Operating Museum which will only be open Sunday March 8). There is a little something for everyone: live steam trains at the South Park and Western Railroad; the only G-scale garden funicular in the world at the Cholla Patch Railroad (and a miniature tree house too!); a waterfall and a Disney Character retreat (and so much more) at the Rose Garden Railroad; the Silver City, Deming, and Pacific highlights a 1950's feel while the Juniper Ridge Railroad showcases the landscape with a 1900's feel. Don't forget about the sites at the different Museums and Rincon Country West RV Park. You can even run the trains at The Oracle Community Learning Garden's Kid's Railroad.
