31st Rogues Hollow Festival
Friday, August 1, 2025 -- Saturday, August 2, 2025, 1900 - 2300
31st Annual Rogues Hollow Festival
‘Take me Home’
Old-fashioned Street Fair in Doylestown's downtown.
The town square is made into a pedestrian mall with live music on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Come and celebrate a unique slice of local history about "the hollow".
This area of the county was rich in coal. In the early to mid-1800's coal was mined from the surface by drift mining. Most of the mines were small, a few mines were larger and more extensive. Hard working miners spent their earnings. This is how some of "the hollow" stories were started. 'Watering holes' for the local miners were set up--some for drinking, eating, a place to stay or buy supplies. Some had dance floors with springs to buoy the revelers as they danced the night away! As time passed, the mines were not as profitable, closed and put miners out of work. Not having any legal means of support, some of these ruffians ventured into a life of accosting travelers going through "the hollow". The road that ran through "the hollow" was one of the main routes local tradesmen and farmers used to go to market. Soon the number of "rogues" accosting people made the 20-mile detour around the place a necessity. It was only if you had a burly crew, fast horse or a desire for adventure, that going through the "rogues hollow" was a choice you made! Many legends of strange happenings in "the hollow" persist today. -- Ask some of our local old-timers about Cry-Baby Bridge, the creaking and haunting of Chidester Mill, and rumors about the devil riding a headless horse through "the hollow" on moonlit nights!
Rogues Hollow and Chidester Mill will be open 11-4 on Saturday August 2nd, maps for the ‘drive yourself tour’ down to the “hollow’ will be at the information booth. Inspect the museum, walk the grounds, picnic in the shade, check out the Coal Car and watch the water wheel go!
