The Alaskan Sled Dog and Racing Association Invites you to a Community Open House And Fundraiser
Where: 4800 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Avenue
When: November 18, 2023 1-4:00 PM
The Alaskan Sled Dog and Racing Association began in 1949 with races at the Park Strip between G and E Streets and 9th and 10th Avenue. The club in 1956 voted to purchase a BLM Land Patent on Tudor Road. This became the trailhead for dog mushing in Anchorage at 3400 Tudor Road.
A land exchange with the Municipality of Anchorage Heritage Land Bank in 2021 allowed ASDRA to rebuild a new trail head and a modern building. We are excited to share the Tozier Track Trailhead and new clubhouse with the community.
Bring your cameras! Dress for the weather!
Most of the presentations will be outside with the dogs.
Come and visit the sled dogs, walk through the new facility, and learn about mushing in Anchorage. The main room will have some of the history of Anchorage dog mushing displayed. More is planned! Bid on the great fundraiser items!
ASDRA's fundraiser includes silent auction items and raffle items to be awarded at the end of the day. Donations include dinners, Katmai trip, Hatcher Pass Tours, and many other items.
Program scheduled throughout the time will include meeting the dogs and short talks on:
Harnessing, fit, and harness types, starting out with one sled dog to bike-jor or ski-jor, junior mushing, purebred sled dogs, sled types and uses, new materials in sleds, larger dog teams, grooming equipment, and volunteer opportunities.
