Broom Day in Bromley
Sunday, May 10, 2026, 1100 - 1600
On Broom Day Sunday 10th May Celebrate the flowering of the broom in springtime!
...in The Glades, in the High Street and on Martin’s Hill
Bromley gets its name from the profusion of broom that once grew in the area.
Local groups are getting together with The Glades, Your Bromley and the Council to revive this Spring Festival that once attracted thousands of visitors.
This year Broom Day is to be celebrated on Sunday 10th May 2026.
There will be an EXHIBITION in the Central Atrium of The Glades* from 11am to 4pm, telling the story of the broom in Bromley and how the town grew from the Anglo-Saxon village of ‘Broomleag’ meaning ‘a woodland clearing where broom grows’. Yellow floral decorations will be available along with green and yellow headdresses that children can make for themselves.
The Mayor will lead a PARADE with a five piece marching band starting at 12pm from the Elmfield Road entrance of The Glades. They will progress up the High Street and along Church Road to Martins Hill. Look out for a giant Green Man and a lifesize Broom Flower walking with us along with some very tall Flower Girls!
All are welcome to join us on the Parade.... wear something green and yellow!
On MARTIN'S HILL**, by the War memorial, there will be a display, music, entertainment and activities including a ‘Beat the Goalie’ competition put on by Bromley Football Club; the Croydon Steel Orchestra and a display from the Vivace Gymnastics Club Bromley. There will be information about how best to conserve and protect the broom and an opportunity to volunteer with others to help keep back the brambles!
...but most all we will be there to admire and celebrate the spectacular flowering of the broom.
Funds will be raised for local charity ‘Bromley Brighter Beginnings’
