Burlington Heritage Trail Unveiling and Dedication in Burlington on 20 June 2026
Saturday, June 20, 2026, 1145 - 1300
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, immediately following the Berry Dairy Days parade, the Burlington Historical Society is hosting the dedication of the Burlington Heritage Trail, a new self-guided tour of historic downtown Burlington. Three historical markers that will be erected for the trail will be on display for the unveiling. All nine historical markers will be installed at the various historic sites by later this fall.

This self-guided, easy to walk, as well as ADA accessible, history tour will consist of a series of historical markers located at historic sites in Burlington’s downtown core along East Fairhaven Avenue.

The Burlington Heritage Trail is made possible by a collaboration between the Burlington Historical Society and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation of Syracuse, New York (wgpfoundation.org). The foundation provides grants for communities across the United States to obtain historical markers to showcase their hometown’s history. Local support for this heritage tourism project comes from the Skagit County Lodging Tax Fund and the Burlington Lodging Tax Fund for 2026.

In addition to the historical markers unveiling, the 100-year anniversary of the Old City Hall Building, which was meticulously restored by the Gentry family in the 1980s to its original 1920s vintage charm, will be honored as part of the dedication event. The public is invited to attend.

The markers and sites for this initial phase of the trail will be: The Old City Hall Building, the Knutzen Store, The Alpha Club, Former Bank Building, the Burlington Carnegie Library, Early Schools, the Former Hospital, and markers unique to Burlington’s past: The Hub City (for Transportation), and Berry Dairy Days (for unique Food Festival).
