ANGELA VERBRUGGE
Vocal Jazz
Angela Verbrugge Quartet Band description The Canadian jazz vocalist Angela Verbrugge (2020 JazzTimes Readers' Poll for "Best Female Vocalist") gives every note a passionate and emotional expression. The charismatic singer, composer and lyricist spent the last year on tour in Canada, Europe, Turkey and Japan.

Verbrugge is joined by some of Germany's best jazz musicians: Julian Schmidt on piano, Thomas Stabenow on bass and Guido May on drums.

The band brings the authentic swing feel, paired with finely crafted arrangements, giving classic vocal and instrumental jazz standards, as well as their own compositions, a fresh, timeless sound.

"Angela has good humor, common sense and good taste, a rare combination. She is an incredibly sharp comedian, social critic, swing psychologist and a born storyteller. Angela has a remarkably winning voice. She is a joy to listen to, sometimes citrusy, sometimes warm and hugging. She is a fun, playful copywriter. Listen and be excited. Her art is her own and it offers rare pleasures." Michael Steinman, JazzLives

About the singer
Angela Verbrugge has been touring the world singing about love gone right (or very wrong!). Her lyrics range from humorous tales of romance while trying to eat buttery corn at a summer picnic, to the mad dash panicked adventure of being late, to sweet reflections newfound infatuation, to sour reflections on feeling wholly unloveable. The whimsical style takes inspiration from vintage movie musicals, traditional swing era pop and American songbook and jazz standards. Born in Canada, Angela has a penchant for drama having studied theatre in Toronto (and just generally being a dramatic person!) before moving to western Canada in 1997. Verbrugge has released three critically-acclaimed albums, in 2019, 2022 and the latest in May 2024 on Origin Records out of Seattle. Rave reviews of her recordings have resulted in performance opportunities in far-flung places including Japan, Türkiye, Luxembourg, Germany, UK and many Canadian provinces, all in the last four years. Her music has been played on radio around the world including CBC, NPR, and she took the number one spot of the Earshot charts multiple weeks.
