Classic FM Hall of Fame
Saturday, March 7, 2026, 1930 - 2130
Enjoy an evening featuring six of the greatest works in classical music! Join the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra at Lighthouse, Poole on Saturday 7 March for Classic FM Hall of Fame conducted by Tom Fetherstonhaugh. This is a great concert for both classical music fanatics and first-time audiences, with recognizable pieces sure to be enjoyed by all.
Rossini's bright and sunny overture preludes one of the most famous and popular of all concertos, suffused with the sun-drenched melodies and balmy atmosphere of southern Spain; its achingly beautiful slow movement is perhaps the most sublime pieces of music ever written.
The Spanish passion continues with Chabrier's dazzling rhapsody and Rimsky-Korsakov's vibrant and colourful suite. In contrast, Borodi evokes the sweeping plains of central Asia, whilst nightmarish visions abound in Mussorgsky's dark and brooding depiction of a Witches Sabbath.
Works and composers:
Rossini - The Barber of Seville Overture
Rodrigo - Concierto de Aranjuez
Chabrier - España
Mussorgsky - A Night on the Bare Mountain
Borodin - In the Steppes of Central Asia
Rimsky-Korsakov - Capriccio Espagnol
This concert is part of their BSO Pops series - this fantastic array of concerts include popular classics that you will recognize from TV and adverts to full- blown symphonic Spectaculars showcasing the music of the likes of Queen, ABBA and Pink Floyd and outdoor extravaganzas at Meyrick Park in Bournemouth. They also perform regular film music nights which feature some of the best movie classics ever written and an annual feast of Christmas and New Year seasonal treats.
