Columbia River Gorge Quilt Show

The Quilt Show takes up two buildings at the Hood River County Fairgrounds. This year, the vendors will offer all kinds of high-quality cotton fabrics, kits, patterns, sewing supplies, and more. You can even have your scissors and knives sharpened while you view the quilts. The café will be open for lunch, so you can make a day of it, and stay for docent talks and demonstrations.

The quilts are professionally judged across six categories, with ribbons and cash prizes for standouts. Five community representatives select their favorites and attendees can vote for the Viewer’s Choice winners. This year’s show includes four Guild Challenges: Paint Chip Poetry, Word Play, Oceans Blue, and Hidden in Plain Sight.

Many of the quilters participating in the show also make Comfort Quilts, a bed or wheelchair-size quilt for local hospitals, hospice, VA, and shelters. The Guild has donated 150 quilts this year, and is approaching 2,000 since they started keeping records in 2010. If you or a loved one has received a quilt from a local hospital, chances are that one of the show artist created it. All the donated quilts are submitted anonymously, and the quilters are happy just knowing their work can help in a time of need.
