Coming Soon.. The Charmers!
Friday, June 13, 2025, 1900 - 2100
The Charmers are a (possibly fictional) band, formed by seven accused 'witches' from Ayrshire. These runaway, queer, time-travelling-players were discovered on a 17th century scroll by an artist researching the Scottish witch trials, and they are out on tour.. don't miss them!
This is a unique opportunity to catch this amazing band of musicians on tour: with Debbie Armour (Burd Ellen, described as 'Wonderful', Cerys Matthews and one of 'our finest folk explorers', The Wire) vocals and shruti, Debbie Smith (of Curve, Snowpony and Echobelly fame!) on electric guitars, with Tansy Spinks electric and acoustic fiddle, Lisa Lux percussion/drums, and Anne Robinson, vocals and visuals - performances include new films from The Charmers.
Coming Soon.. The Charmers! is an art project in diverse forms led by Anne Robinson: films, drawings, sound, broadside ballads, workshops and conversations.
Look out for new, 4 track EP 'Not to be Found' available on Bandcamp also featuring and Jo Gate-Eastley on bass and renowned improviser, Maggie Nicols.

'The Charmers' art project draws on research by artist Anne Robinson into the Scottish 'witch' trials of the 17th century: known to be amongst the most brutal in the world. During archival investigations, she found scrolls recording seven accused 'witches' in Ayrshire, as 'not to be found' - apparently fugitives. From these fragments, using 'critical fabulation' and experimenting with songs, film, and performance, the work developed around a 'sci-fi folk ballad' and time-travel through queer history! The accused 'witches' abscond using the very conjuring they are accused of: transported away out of their cells to form a band, on tour with their familiars to historical moments of transformative rebellion - levellers' meetings, molly houses, cabaret, disco protests...
Our gig and workshops in Ayr are supported by Narture and South Ayrshire Council.
The Charmers' project is supported by a National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England
Look out for workshops in June led by this group of artists too! How Long Have You Been Singing In The Dark? A song-making workshop with renowned singer Debbie Armour, at Cutty Sark Centre, and and Broadside Prints with lead Charmers artist Anne Robinson.
