5,000-Character Description
Community Care Day is a free, open-to-everyone event on Friday, June 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Horizon Health Adult Day Services, 1201 Hillton Road in Little Falls, Minnesota.
This is an open house. Come when you can, stay as long as you like, and leave when you need to. There is no registration, no cost, and no age requirement. Bring your family. Bring a neighbor. Just show up.
Throughout the day, a live band will be playing, food will be available, and crafts will be set up for people of all ages. Representatives from the Little Falls Police Department and local fire department will be on site. It is a welcoming, casual atmosphere designed for the whole community.
Every 30 minutes, a new educational session begins. These are optional. You choose what interests you. Sessions run throughout the event and cover four key topics:
Home Safety and Scam Prevention. Learn what to watch for and how to protect yourself and your loved ones. The Little Falls Police Department leads the scam prevention session. The fire department covers home safety. These are practical, no-pressure conversations designed to give you tools you can use right away.
Dementia Awareness. Get introduced to the GEMS model, a framework that helps people understand different stages of dementia and how to connect with loved ones at each stage. This session pairs with an interactive dementia experience available in small groups throughout the day. The experience gives participants a first-hand glimpse into what it feels like to live with dementia. It is eye-opening, compassionate, and designed to build understanding, not fear.
Caregiver Support. If you are caring for an aging parent, spouse, or family member, this session is for you. Caregiving is meaningful work, and it is also hard work. This session offers conversation, connection, and practical information about local resources that can help. You do not have to be in crisis to benefit. Whether you are early in the caregiving role or have been doing it for years, there is something here for you.
Community Care Day is brought to you by Horizon Health's Faith in Action program, a volunteer-powered initiative that supports seniors and family caregivers across Morrison County. Faith in Action connects people with transportation, friendly visits, respite care, caregiver support, and more. This event is one way we open the door for more people to know what is available to them.
This program is funded under contract with the Minnesota Board on Aging.
