Conrad Yoder: Pioneer of the Catawba Valley
In partnership with the Yoder Family National Reunion, the Catawba County Historical Association is hosting a one-day lecture/storytelling series on the life of Conrad Yoder (b. 1725), a prominent settler of the Catawba Valley who fought in the Revolutionary War at the Battle of Kings Mountain (Oct. 7, 1780). These presentations are free and open to the public as part of the Association's Hands-On-History Program in observance of the United States semiquincentennial (250th).
Speakers will include:
- Dr. Gary Freeze, Professor of History at Catawba College, Salisbury, NC (ret.) and author of The Catawbans: "The Revolutionary World of Conrad Yoder."
- Dr. Emily Coffman Richardson, President of the Texas Genealogical Society: "Finding Conrad"-A 40-Year Quest."
- Chris Yoder- Founder and editor of the Yoder national newsletter: "An American Yoder Family Overview."
The presentations will be at the Catawba County Museum of History (30 N. College Ave.) on Friday, Oct. 24th, 10 a.m.-2:00 p.m., with a break for lunch. Again, admission is free. Though the museum will be closed for other purposes during the seminar, participants will have access to the conference hall. Following the lectures, participants will have the opportunity to view the museum displays at 2:00.
