Hosted by: St. George Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church
Join us for a joyful and historic celebration as seven Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Churches from across the Bay Area unite for a public parade and church inauguration in San Francisco.
This vibrant cultural and spiritual procession marks the relocation and grand opening of the new St. George Ethiopian Orthodox Church at 1300 Polk Street. The event will begin with a sacred Tabot procession-symbolizing the Ark of the Covenant-and continue with music, dancing, chanting, and traditional pageantry.
What to Expect:
- Live traditional music from 30+ Begena musicians
- Priests and deacons in liturgical dress carrying the Holy Tabot
- Incense-burning ceremony along the route
- Sunday school choirs and drums
- Cultural floats, including a replica church on a trailer
- Free and family-friendly celebration for all backgrounds
- Ethiopian flags, traditional dress, food vendors and more!
This is a free cultural event-everyone is welcome! Whether you are part of the Ethiopian community or simply wish to experience a powerful moment of unity, faith, and tradition, come walk with us!
Parade Route:
Starts at 2135 Sutter St, proceeds down Sutter, turns left on Polk St, and concludes at 1300 Polk St, the new church location.
