The play "Driving Miss Daisy" will be presented on Fridays and weekends between March 8 - 24, 2024 at the Vint Hill Theater on the Green at 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton, VA. All tickets are for reserved seating.

THE STORY: The place is the Deep South, the time 1948, just prior to the civil rights movement. Having recently demolished yet another car, Daisy Werthan, a rich, sharp-tongued widow of seventy-two, is informed by her son, Boolie, that henceforth she must rely on the services of a chauffeur. The person he hires for the job is a thoughtful, unemployed man named Hoke, whom Miss Daisy immediately regards with disdain and who, in turn, is not impressed with his employer’s patronizing tone and, he believes, her latent prejudice. But, in a series of absorbing scenes spanning twenty-five years, the two, despite their mutual differences, grow ever closer to, and more dependent on, each other.

"Driving Miss Daisy" is the recipient of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play is a warm-hearted, humorous and affecting study of an unlikely relationship between Daisy and Hoke. The play was inspired by Alfred Uhry's grandmother, Lena Fox, her chauffeur, Will Coleman, and his father. His grandmother, a woman who lived in Atlanta during the 1960s, had to give up driving after a car accident, and hired Coleman, who drove her for 25 years.
