Get ready to dig into inspiration! University of Illinois Extension and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach are once again teaming up to present Gardening in the Air, a free virtual symposium designed for plant lovers of all levels. This interactive online event brings together expert-led sessions on trending topics in home horticulture-from flower drying and lawn care to pet-friendly landscaping and orchard management, and more.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 18 for three dynamic online sessions, each offering three topic choices. Whether you're curious about ornamental grasses, grow lights, or gardening in a changing climate, there's something for everyone.

Register for Gardening in the Air by October 15 at go.illinois.edu/GardeningintheAir to receive Zoom links and access to recorded sessions with closed captioning. Internet access and a valid email address are required. While the event is free, donations are appreciated to support future programming.

* Good Bugs We Love to Hate: Discover the surprising benefits of misunderstood insects like wasps, flies, and even cockroaches with Ken Johnson, University of Illinois Extension
* Value of Turf and Sports Turf Maintenance: Explore turf care for athletic fields vs. home lawns, plus safety tips and maintenance tricks with Adam Thoms, Iowa State University

10:15-11:15 a.m. (Choose one)
* Grasses and Sedges in the Home Landscape: Find out which native grasses and sedges work best in formal and naturalized garden settings with Erin Garrett, University of Illinois Extension.
* Bulbs and Plant Storage Structures: Uncover the differences between bulbs, corms, tubers, and rhizomes-and how to care for them with Sarah Rummery, Iowa State University.
* Gardening in a Changing World: Plan for the future with climate-resilient gardening strategies and smart plant choices with David McKinney, Iowa Arboretum and Gardens.

11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Choose one)
* Growing Under Lights: Master indoor gardening with tips on choosing and using supplemental lighting with Aaron Steil, Iowa State University.
* Pet-Friendly Landscaping: Design a safe, stylish yard for you and your pets with non-toxic plants and creative features with Jamie Viebach, University of Illinois Extension .
* Midwest Apple History and Orchard Management: Explore the heritage and care of Midwestern apple orchards-from pruning to rootstocks with Olivia Meyer, Iowa State University.
