Live theater is back in downtown Hyannis. In this case, footsteps off Main Street, on the stage of Hyannis Arts Hall, the recently opened nonprofit arts and cultural center in the Historic East End.

Familiar television actor David Dean Bottrell, who's also a veteran of stage and film, brings his acclaimed one-man show Teenage Wasteland: Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen to Hyannis Arts Hall on Friday, August 1 at 7 pm, presented by Hyannis Film Festival and Hyannis Arts Hall.

Bottrell has recorded a long, multi-talented career on television, as an author, and as a playwright and screenwriter. Audiences might remember him from his recurring role as Lincoln Meyer on Boston Legal. Or in his quirky guest appearances on long running TV series including CSI, Law and Order, Rectify, and many others, along with his comedic turns on Frasier and Modern Family. Bottrell is credited with more than 50 roles by IMDB, the Internet Movie Database. His comedic one-man shows have played to sold-out theaters on both coasts, notes Wikipedia.

Bottrell's book, Working Actor: Breaking In, Making a Living and Making a Life in the Fabulous Trenches of Show Business, was published by a division of Random House. He's the co-playwright with Jessie Jones of the Off-Broadway play Dearly Departed, which the two developed into the movie Kingdom Come, starring LL Cool J, Jada Pinket Smith, and Whoopi Goldberg. Bottrell's short film Available Men, which he wrote and directed, won 17 awards on the film festival circuit.

Following the success of his notable solo show David Dean Bottrell Makes Love: A One-Man Show, Bottrell brings the universal experience of being an adolescent to Teenage Wasteland, a "hilarious, and heartbreaking... tour de force," said playwright and actor Charles Busch. Stage and Screen called Teenage Wasteland "a must-see event... funny, poignant, and personal." Another reviewer wrote Bottrell is "one part David Sedaris, one part Spaulding Gray."

Tickets for Bottrell's heartfelt but comic tales of youth can be found now on eventbrite.com for $30 general admission, plus a processing fee of $3.85. Hyannis Arts Hall doors open at 6:30 pm on Friday, August 1, with beer and wine service before the 7 pm performance of about 90 minutes. Recommended for ages 15+.
