Join us for an unforgettable evening as Stages of History hosts its first annual fundraising gala, History in the Making, on Saturday, October 18, from 5:30-7:30pm at the Eureka! McConnell Science Museum in Grand Junction. This special adults-only event is free admission, making it the perfect night out to celebrate the power of history while supporting meaningful educational programming for students across the Western Slope.
About the Event
Step back in time with us and experience the magic of Chautauqua-style history performances, where talented student and adult performers bring historical figures to life through first-person monologues. This gala isn’t just a night of entertainment-it’s a chance to make a lasting impact. Proceeds and donations from the evening will benefit Stages of History, a brand-new nonprofit dedicated to ensuring local students have access to Chautauqua programming in their classrooms.
For years, these performances were made possible by Colorado Humanities through funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. However, in spring 2024, that funding was cut, leaving a gap in opportunities for students in District 51 and other Western Slope schools. Our community is stepping up to fill that gap. Stages of History was founded to continue and expand this powerful educational tradition so that students can keep experiencing the transformative impact of living-history performances.
Who We Serve
Chautauqua programming gives students the chance to embody history-not just read about it. Young people step into the shoes of historical figures, research their lives, and perform monologues in costume. This immersive approach builds confidence, research skills, public speaking ability, and a deep connection to history. Families, teachers, and students across Mesa County have seen firsthand how valuable this experience is.
