Thursday, November 6, 2025, 1730 - 1830
In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of artist Robert Rauschenberg's birth in 1925, Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln presents a lecture by Julia Blaut, senior director of curatorial affairs for the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, on Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. The lecture is free and open to everyone.
Blaut's talk will focus on Rauschenberg's enduring artistic legacy with special attention to works on view at Sheldon in the exhibition "Robert Rauschenberg and the Flatbed Picture Plane."
A graduate of Smith College, the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and the Whitney Independent Study Program, Blaut was formerly assistant curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, where she worked on Rauschenberg's late career retrospective. She has curated, taught, and published in the field of postwar American art.
The lecture at Sheldon is supported by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and is presented as part of the UNL School of Art, Art History and Design's Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture Series, which brings notable artists, scholars, and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.
Sheldon Museum of Art houses an art collection of international distinction in a landmark high modernist building at 12th and R streets at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Admission is free. For hours and more information, visit sheldonartmuseum.org.
