In Conversation with Wade Davis in Vancouver on 11 September 2025
Thursday, September 11, 2025, 1830 - 2000
The conversation will be hosted by award-winning CBC journalist and UBC professor Kathryn Gretsinger. Drawing from decades of fieldwork, Dr. Davis reflects on the stories, places and experiences that shape our understanding of culture, memory, nature and meaning. From the Amazon to the Arctic, his work documenting endangered cultures and traditional knowledge has influenced global conversations on cultural and ecological preservation.
Described as "a rare combination of scientist, scholar, poet and passionate defender of all of life's diversity," Dr. Davis is the author of more than 20 books, including THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW, ONE RIVER, THE WAYFINDERS, INTO THE SILENCE (winner of the 2012 Samuel Johnson Prize), and MAGDALENA: RIVER OF DREAMS. He is an extraordinarily engaging storyteller, a Member of the Order of Canada, an honorary citizen of Colombia, and holds numerous honorary degrees from universities worldwide.
Presented by the Faculty Women's Club at UBC, this event is a fundraiser in support of 16 scholarships and bursaries for UBC students. Come enjoy the evening while making a lasting difference to deserving students. Please bring your friends and family, and help spread the word!
