Sunday, September 13, 2026, 1700 - 1915
Keswick Film Club's Autumn season starts on Sunday 13th September at the Keswick Alhambra Cinema, with a French comedy drama, Colours of Time, and then sets off on a world tour, taking in Europe, Africa and Asia and a transatlantic hop to Canada and the USA.
Films in the programme have picked up multiple awards for best actor, best director or best film at Festivals across the world. One European Prize Jury said of Cotton Queen (8th November) from Sudan: "This is a film that we took to heart from the first moment we saw it. As we live in a world plagued by genocide and war, this film reminded us of what is truly important and what we are fighting for: our families and communities."
Stories of families and communities are strong themes throughout the programme, whether it is the tangled emotions of an elderly relative moving into supported accommodation (Familiar Touch, 20th September) or the realities of a young woman's life in the post-industrial community of Blaenau Ffestiniog (Effi O Blaenau, 29th November)
Other highlights include the legendary Pedro Almodovar's latest, Bitter Christmas (11th October) which he describes as one of the riskiest films he has ever made; Cactus Pears (27th September) which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival is the story of a gay Indian man who returns to his home village from the city for his father's funeral and The Yellow Tie (6th December), a sumptuous bio-pic of renowned Berlin Philharmonic conductor Sergiu Celibidache, where the concert scenes are a tour-de-force.
