Saturday, April 20, 2024, 1300 - 1500
This L.I.N.K. event, free of charge, explores impacts of settler colonialism that continue to the present day. The processes of colonialization and the aftermath of King Philip's War result in far-reaching and damaging consequences passed down from generation to generation of Wampanoag people. Colonization has affected Indigenous people around the globe, and the psychological/cultural devastation it has wrought is collectively known as "historical trauma. Linda Coombs will discuss the continuum of trauma and its generational aspects.

Linda Coombs has worked for 50 years as a museum educator beginning at the Boston Children's Museum and Plimouth Patuxet (formerly Plimoth Plantation). She is the author of a new book for young adults entitled "Colonization and the Wampanoag Story."

The program, the fourth in the new "2024 Educational Series," is sponsored by L.I.N.K. (Linking Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Knowledge) in collaboration with UU Falmouth (Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth). Held monthly, the free series covers a range of topics chosen in consultation with Elders and teachers in the Mashpee and Aquinnah Tribes. L.I.N.K's mission is to raise awareness among Cape Cod residents about the Wampanoag people as the Indigenous people of the land, their culture, and the hard realities of history.

More information is available at L.I.N.K.'s website, linkcapecod.org and at UU Falmouth's website, uuffm.org or uufalmouth.org.
