Madman Live Presentation, Book Tour in Palm Harbor Library

Step into Palm Harbor's past for a chilling evening of history and mystery. Tampa Bay author M.F. Gross unravels the true story of John Calvin “Rastus” Russell, a violent ex-con whose 1949 crime spree stunned the quiet coastal town and sparked one of Florida's largest manhunts.

Through a 75-minute narrated presentation and slideshow, Gross reveals how years of research, from museum archives to eyewitness accounts, helped piece together new insights into the case. Attendees will see rare photos and realistic replicas of the weapons used by both the killer and law enforcement, bringing the story vividly to life.

The Palm Harbor Museum, which played a key role in Gross's investigation, now joins in sponsoring the event, held just up the road from where Russell once lived. Following the presentation, guests can meet the author, purchase signed copies of his book, and reflect on how one shocking night became a defining chapter in local history.

Admission is free; donations support the Palm Harbor Museum and Palm Harbor Public Library.
