Migratory Bird Day
Saturday, May 9, 2026, 0900 - 1800
2026 Global Theme: "Every Bird Counts - Your Observations Matter". Saturday, May 9th, 2026. Partners: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. #WorldMigratoryBirdDay #ForNature #WMBD #WMBD2026 #BirdsConnectUs
Flock to the Zoo and bring binoculars on May 9th for self-guided bird activities. World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated annually at the Alaska Zoo with our longtime partner U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Alaska Zoo’s 30-acre facility is a naturally wooded boreal forest with the South Fork of Little Campbell Creek running through the back of the zoo. Grab your binoculars or spotting scopes and come to the zoo on Saturday, May 9th, to brush up on your birding skills. We are seeing migratory species passing through the zoo’s grounds now, so you never know which species you will encounter.
We will have the following self-guided amenities for guests: Birding signs with QR codes which visitors can scan with phone cameras to learn about birds and birding, coloring sheets available at the admissions entrance.
Learn about the steps we are taking to make our zoo more bird friendly by reducing collisions!
Migrate to the zoo to celebrate the return of millions of birds to Alaska this spring!
