Mint Cannabis and Vitalant Bring Community Blood Drive to El Mirage on Monday, June 30

The community blood drives take place at the following times, on the following dates, at the following locations:

From 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm:
* Sunday, June 22: Mint Cannabis dispensary, 2444 W. Northern Ave., Phoenix, 85021
* Monday, June 23: Mint Cannabis dispensary, 330 E. Southern Ave., Mesa, 85210
* Thursday, June 26: Mint Cannabis dispensary, 8729 E. Manzanita Dr., Scottsdale, 85258
* Monday, June 30: Mint Cannabis dispensary, 15235 N. Dysart Rd., El Mirage, 85335

Vitalant will have a bloodmobile set up in the parking lot of each Mint Cannabis dispensary. During a blood donation, approximately one pint of “whole blood” is given. The entire process usually takes about one hour, including the complimentary mini-physical, average 10-minute blood donation and visit to the refreshment area to replenish with snacks and fluids.

Blood donors who are 21 years of age or older will receive a merchandise voucher from the Mint that is redeemable for a future visit.
Additionally, when you donate blood with Vitalant during the month of June, you’ll:
- Receive a $10 online gift card;

- Will qualify for a chance to win $10,000.

While walk-ins will be accepted, individuals who make an appointment in advance to donate blood at one of these events will be prioritized.

Arizona needs blood donors in June. While blood donors are constantly needed in Arizona, this is especially true during the summer months. Schools where blood drives are often held are closed for summer break, and current donors might put off giving blood due to summer vacations. However, blood needs throughout Arizona remain constant. While donations drop, the potential for accidents and the need for blood increases.

Less than 3% of the population gives blood. Donors who give on a regular basis are important to meet these needs.
Someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds, whether it’s due to an accident, surgery, illness, or disease.

Blood has a short shelf life, requiring a constant supply of donations. Red blood cells must be used within 42 days, and platelets must be used in five. That means blood products must be constantly replenished, and doing so is only possible thanks to blood donors.

Maricopa County is still one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation. Its blood needs, as well as those throughout the state, continue to rise — often outpacing donations. According to Vitalant, 600 blood donors are needed every day to meet the needs for 62 Arizona hospitals.
