Drag Queens Return to Sonoma for Moulin Rouge!
A movie-themed dinner with performances at the Center to celebrate Pride Month
Sonoma, California. In partnership with Out in the Vineyard, the Sonoma Community Center will hold its second annual movie-themed evening to celebrate Pride. A dinner show inspired by the 2001 film, Moulin Rouge!, happens Saturday, June 21st, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Center's Secret Garden. In conjunction, Sebastiani Theatre will show a 2:00 p.m. matinee of the movie Moulin Rouge! on Sunday, June 22nd.
Last year's event brought South Beach style, while this summer, the Moulin Rouge invites Paris chic! A jukebox musical, the fictional story is inspired by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the Bohemian movement, and, of course, the real Moulin Rouge, a Parisian cabaret at the foot of Montmartre. Attendees are encouraged to dress to the nines, inspired by the lush sets, lavish costumes, and cabaret style.
"Last year's The Birdcage-themed dinner was a dazzling evening of fun, flair, and unforgettable performances!" Said Gary Saperstein, owner of Out in the Vineyard. "I'm totally excited to see what the Center comes up with for this very fun and sexy theme. Everyone wants to go to the Moulin Rouge at least once in their lives."
The Secret Garden will be transformed into a cabaret, and the night will begin with a cocktail created especially for the event by Prohibition Spirits. Wine and beer will also be available, provided by sponsors Corner 103 Wines and HenHouse Brewing Company.
Chef Anthony Fontaine, originally from the picturesque region of Normandy, France, has created a delicious menu for the evening. It will start with Salade Niçoise, a vibrant seasonal appetizer with crudités, eggs, olives, black pepper-crusted seared tuna, and white anchovies. The main course will be Poulet à la Provençal, a braised chicken dish, with gratin dauphinois, haricots verts, and salade verte.
"I'm so excited to be back at the Center with a new cast in a show inspired by one of my all-time favorites, Moulin Rouge!" entertainment organizer Juliano Wade said. "I love to perform at this event because the energy and love from the crowd. It's magical."
In this year's movie-themed performance, Wade will be joined by drag queens Mahlae Balenciaga and Betty Fresas. After the dinner show, the entertainers will bring guests to their feet and dance to the beats of DJ StaRjay. Don't forget to bring dollar bills to tip the queens during their performances.
Tickets for Moulin Rouge! Dinner and Drag are $125 per person (21+) for open seating and are expected to sell out. Sponsorships start at $500 and include reserved seating. A limited number of premium reserved seating is available at a sponsorship level of $1500.
