Roots and Rhythm: Shakuhachi and Ghatam in Dialogue

Roots and Rhythm: Shakuhachi and Ghatam in Dialogue
An Exploration of Japanese, Indian, Latin and Jazz Fusion

Experience the Roots and Rhythm quintet, led by shakuhachi master John Kaizan Neptune and Grammy-winning ghatam virtuoso Giridhar Udupa, as it brings together Japanese, Indian, Latin and Jazz Fusion in a contemporary musical dialogue.

Blending the expressive voices of the shakuhachi and ghatam with guitar, bass and percussion, the ensemble creates an original contemporary sound shaped by improvisation, rhythm and musical dialogue. Rather than presenting musical traditions, Roots and Rhythm brings together diverse influences to create something new-music that is deeply rooted, yet unmistakably contemporary.

Whether you're discovering these remarkable instruments for the first time or are a longtime world music enthusiast, this intimate performance invites you into an evening of connection, creativity and musical discovery.

Roots and Rhythm is independently produced by the Neptune family and Muditā Agency. Thank you for supporting independent artists and live music.
