Second Saturdays at Kalmar Nyckel's Maritime Center
Saturday, January 10, 2026, 1300 - 1600
Visit the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation every month this year on Second Saturdays and explore hands-on history at our riverfront Maritime Center. Crafts and activities are included in winter admission fees: $5/adult, $3/ages 3-12), and under 3 is free.
Cabins and Cocoa, January 10 - Discover how the Swedes and Finns stayed warm 300 years ago. Make a log cabin with popsicle sticks and construction paper. Then, warm up with delicious hot cocoa provided by Sweet Lucy's.
Sailors' Valentine's, February 14 - Set sail on a crafty adventure and learn about Sailors' Valentine's - beautiful keepsakes of tiny seashell mosaics made by talented Caribbean artisans. Sailors sent these home to their loved ones. Design and decorate your own seashell Valentine. You can spread a little love and give it to someone special OR keep it as your own sparkling treasure
Let Your Voice Be Heard, March 14 - March is Women's History Month, and you can MARCH for what matters! Come get creative, get loud, and celebrate history in the most awesome way! What you believe is important! Create your own megaphone or marching sign. Then show off your masterpiece and let the world know what you stand for!
Poems in a Bottle, April 11 - Do you know how sailors had fun on long ocean voyages? Take a hands-on poetry adventure with us. Write a mad-lib-style sea chantey that's wacky and fun. Then decorate a bottle and place your chantey inside - just like sailors at sea! Celebrate National Poetry Month at the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation's Maritime Museum!
