Stogumber Open Gardens weekend, 14 and 15 June

STOGUMBER OPEN GARDENS WEEKEND, 14 AND 15 JUNE
On Father’s Day weekend, from 10.30am – 5.30pm on 14 and 15 June, the small Somerset village of Stogumber is hosting a delightful Open Gardens charity event. In its 44th year, around 12 gardens will be open in and around this attractive small village between the Quantock and Brendon Hills, ranging from small cottage gardens to large country gardens. Fabulous food is served all day in the village hall, with coffee and cake, excellent lunches and puddings, and afternoon teas (last orders 4.30pm). There are plant stalls, and a bric-a-brac sale in the Skittles Alley next to the pub. The interesting Grade 1 listed church is open with an art exhibition during the weekend, and music provided at internals during the two days.
Most of the gardens are within reasonable walking distance of the village hall and car park, though the village is hilly. There are nice walks to outlying gardens, but car parking is available near these for those who prefer to drive. The village is about 1 mile up-hill from Stogumber Station (which has its own lovely wildlife garden) on the West Somerset Railway.
This year profits will be divided between the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, the Children's Hospice South West, and the village church. Over £150,000 has been raised over the years!
One visitor, experiencing the weekend for the first time, remarked “The gardens on show were inspiring - interesting and ‘do-able’, and I picked up some fresh ideas. The food was excellent as well - looking forward to next year!”
Dogs on leads are welcome in most areas. £10 for both days (under 16s free), tickets on arrival.
There is a large, free village carpark (TA4 3TG or What3Words payer.self.brew).
