Discover the journey of Nero Hawley, an enslaved man in Trumbull, that led to his emancipation from slavery, and learn about his life as a free man. Historical songwriter and Connecticut's 1st Official State Troubadour, Tom Callinan, will perform his song dedicated to Nero and other pieces highlighting lesser-known stories of African Americans in Connecticut related to enslavement. This is a unique opportunity to reflect on our history and celebrate the contributions of Black individuals through an artistic lens.
