The Lighthouse Community Choir in British Columbia on 19 October 2025
Sunday, October 19, 2025 -- Sunday, February 8, 2026, 1600 - 1730
No Experience Required! Whether you're a seasoned choir veteran or have never sung with others before, you're welcome to join us! We don't require any previous choir experience or the ability to read music notation. Our community embraces singers at every level and ensures all are supported.

A typical evening will fill you up and leave you feeling renewed and refreshed. You'll learn some new music and ways of engaging in group singing. There is no audition - everyone can sing. We ask that members commit to at least one term. The full year consists of two terms and a concert for sharing with others at the end of each term. But, the concert is not the prime reason to gather. We gather simply to sing and nurture your soul through the text and the tunes sung together.

Ashley Wey is known to many choirs as a fine accompanist and guest conductor. This is the first locally based choir built on her own vision. Expect it to feel like a big hug. Ashley is a beloved, award-winning recording artist, pianist, and vocalist with extensive international expertise. She is Sidney-born, and worked on cruise ships, in hotels and toured around the world, before returning to her birthplace by the sea. Recently, she became musical director of St. Paul's United Church. St. Paul's, which has excellent acoustics and a friendly ambience, has generously supported this initiative, even though it is not a 'church choir'.

Known for her eclectic repertoire, engaging arrangements, and ability to bring people from all levels and backgrounds together in song, Ashley is building a musical community that celebrates both the spiritual practice of singing and the joy of coming together. Come and share in the joy and laughter of singing together. Start your week off right with singing on a Sunday night in the heart of Sidney by the sea, British Columbia.

Solo Opportunities Available?
Absolutely! As each session progresses, we will add a couple arrangements with include solo sections where individuals or small groups can shine while supported by the full choir.

Support for Non-Music Readers?
We've got you covered! During rehearsals, we pair notation readers with those who don't read music. Additionally, all music is distributed before the first rehearsal in both written notation and through our online playback system, giving you time to familiarize yourself with the pieces at home.

Voice Parts and Gender?
Voice roles (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) are based purely on vocal range, not gender. Everyone is welcome to sing whichever part best suits their voice.

Age Range?
We welcome adults of all ages and abilities to join our musical family.

Cost?
There is a fee, but it works out to just $12.50 per rehearsal - an affordable way to enjoy weekly music-making!
