The Trojan Women
A Tragedy Adapted from Euripides
By Jessie Holder Tourtellotte
World Premiere presented by the Lake Braddock Theatre

After a decade of horrendous siege warfare, the Trojan War has finally ended, with the infiltration of the Greek soldiers of Troy and the subsequent destruction of the city and the slaughtering of most of its population. Now, mere days after the fall of Troy, the surviving women of Troy await their fates at the hands of the Greeks, and attempt to make sense of a terrifying new reality and horrible grief Hecuba, the former Queen of Troy, alongside her daughter-in-law, the Princess Andromache, and others know the terrible vengeance of the Greek forces has not yet been fully realized, and that while the war might be over, that a new kind of suffering is just about to begin.

As the ships load spoils of war and slavery awaits, a lonely young soldier grapples with his own actions when faced with the human suffering of people he has now met, and a profound connection he could not foresee.

Adapted after Euripides by Jessie Holder Tourtellotte, this production explores age-old yet tragically relevant questions about the nature of war, violence, and their consequences to civilian populations, particularly women and children, and the unique terrors they face in times of conflict.

Unapologetically staged in a heightened style appropriate to Ancient Greek Theatre, we invite audiences to share in the experience of one of the saddest and most impactful stories ever told, described by one translator as the "…writing of one of the great wrongs of the world into music, by the saddest of the poets."

AUDIENCE ADVISORY: This production will contain use of theatrical prop weapons (including firearms), theatrical stage blood and wounds, sounds of simulated modern warfare, flashing and pulsing light effects, safe and non-toxic theatrical fog and haze, and portrayals of acts of violence, including gendered violence, and references to suicidality.

Presented by the award winning Lake Braddock Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director John Tourtellotte.

Performances: May 1 at 7 pm, May 2 at 7 pm, May 3 at 1 pm and 7 pm

This production is recommended for MATURE AUDIENCES only.
