U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS TO HOST PUBLIC MEETING FOR KODIAK FORMERLY USED DEFENSE SITES
Wednesday, September 10, 2025, 1900 - 2100
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites the Kodiak community to a public meeting to learn about ongoing environmental investigation and cleanup activities at local Formerly Used Defense Sites, or FUDS, for four FUDS properties: Kodiak Navy/Army, Burma Road, Buskin Beach, and Fort Tidball/Long Island.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 10th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Kodiak Fisheries Research Center, located at 301 Research Court.
This is an opportunity to hear updates via public presentation and participate in a question-and-answer session. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers values community involvement and encourages participation.
For more information, contact project managers Emily Vullo at 907-753-5680, or Kelly Baltz at 907-753-2576. You can also reach the USACE Alaska District Public Affairs Office at 907-753-2721 or email Public.Affairs3@usace.army.mil.
As a safety precaution, the public is reminded to practice the "3Rs" at military sites: Recognize that any suspicious objects found in the area should not be touched under any circumstances; Retreat, or carefully leave the area and; Report immediately what was found and its approximate location to the police.
