Upcycling Basket Weaving with Hanna Vogel

DESCRIPTION: Explore the possibilities of basketry techniques for sculpture. Using variations on traditional wire basketry, twining, and coiling with soft materials, students will learn multiple weaving techniques to make everything from small baskets to large scale installations. Particular attention will be paid to pattern and line quality in 3D work. Ways to include found objects and methods for turning a wide variety of upcycled materials into woven sculptures will be covered, as well as how to incorporate sculptural basketry into your other art making practice(s). No fiber or basketry experience necessary.
