Wandsworth Prison: Is Change Happening
Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 1900 - 2100
This meeting is organised by the Wandsworth Prison Improvement Campaign
The Wandsworth Prison Improvement Campaign is a grassroots campaign made up of local people and the families of former and current inmates at Wandsworth Prison. Together, we've been organising to bring attention to conditions at the prison and the needs of those incarcerated there. We exist to put pressure on those who have power or influence at HMP Wandsworth to make safety and decency their priority.
Since we were founded over a year ago, we've seen some improvements at the prison, but many challenges remain. Following the success of our public meeting last year, which was attended by over 250 people, we are holding another meeting to ask what has happened at the prison since the appointment of the new Governor and what the local community and others can do to push for sustained improvement.
At the meeting, the new Governor Andy Davy will explain what has happened at the prison since his arrival last June and will answer your questions. Alongside him, Adrian Usher, the Prisons Ombusdman, will talk about his work investigating deaths in custody and what goes wrong in our jails. They will be joined by Natasha Porter, CEO of Unlocked Graduates, who will tell us about their ground-breaking work with prison officers. Finally, we will have a short performance from Errol McGlashen, ex-inmate, poet and performer.
The meeting is free to attend, and we'd love for as diverse a set of groups as possible representing communities in Wandsworth and beyond to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!
