Whether you float down in a bubble or ride here on a broomstick, join us in Andrews Hall on Thursday, July 31, for a fun, interactive night of Wicked!

Sonoma Community Center will host an interactive movie night featuring the 2024 movie adaptation of the hit musical Wicked as the final event of Summer at the Center. Showtime is 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31st. Tickets are $25 and sales benefit programs at the Center.
Follow the yellow brick road to Emerald City, aka Andrews Hall, and join fellow musical theatre fans for a night singing from one of the most popular shows in Broadway history. Is green your color? Participants are encouraged to dress in their Ozian best, and Cat Smith, formerly of Karaoke with Cat and a current member of the SCC team, will host the show.
You don't need to be a Broadway star or even know the lyrics. The movie rolls along as a film would, but every time the actors begin singing, the lyrics light up under the singers so that the audience can sing along. Just like last year's Mamma Mia! Sing-along, the Center will provide prop bags and instructions for interacting with the movie. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.
Jess Peabody, who attended last year's sing-along event, said, "The Mamma Mia sing-along was a night of pure joy, laughter, levity, and community! It's such a great event, I can't wait to attend Wicked!"
Wicked the musical premiered in May 2003 at San Francisco's Curran Theatre. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and the book by Winnie Holzman, this story explores what happened in Oz before Dorothy dropped in. The show quickly made its way to Broadway with the original production winning three Tony Awards and a Grammy Award for the original cast album.
The 2024 movie adaptation of Wicked stars Ariana Grande as Galinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, later known as their more familiar names, Glinda and the Wicked Witch. While the theatrical version is two hours and forty-five minutes, the filmmakers chose to extend the story into two films, with the sequel, Wicked: For Good, premiering this November 2025.
Summer at the Center programming has been planned with the idea of summer camp for grown-ups in mind. These classes and events at the Center are an invitation to play, try something new, and socialize. Tone-deaf? Only sing in the shower? Professional singer? All are invited to defy gravity and raise their voices in this epic sing-along.
"It was such a joy to be a part of the event last year," said Meg Billingham, SCC Director of Ceramics. "There is something incredibly community-building (and cathartic!) about dressing up and singing your favorite dance songs at the top of your lungs in a crowded room full of people."
Leading up to July 31st, there are two other opportunities to try something new from the Summer at the Center series. On Thursday, July 17th at 7:00 p.m., "Zen and Zin" participants will learn the art of zen rock weaving from Jill Valavanis. Chef Gerardo Diaz will lead "Taco Vino," a taco feast featuring wine pairings and demonstrations, on Thursday, July 24th at 5:30 p.m. Both classes cost $40, but the taco dinner has a special for pairs at $60 for two.
The Wicked Movie Sing-along will screen in Andrews Hall at the Sonoma Community Center on Thursday, July 31st. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the film starts at 6:30 p.m. sharp. Tickets are available for $25 online and will be sold at the door while space allows.
